All About Reconstructionism

Sunday, March 11, 2012, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM

All About Reconstructionism

A Lecture by Rabbi Susan Falk

What is Reconstructionist Judaism and how is it different from Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Judaism?  Who was Mordechai Kaplan and what did he do that was considered so radical that it resulted in a new branch of Judaism?  How are Reconstructionist synagogues and services different from their counterparts?  Do Reconstructionist communities exist outside the U.S.?  What is the role of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation (JRF)?  How can Reconstructionist synagogues like CKS better utilize the resources of the JRF?  A follow-up to Rabbi Falk’s very popular talk on this topic last year, this session will inform you on everything you wanted to know about this modern Jewish movement to which Congregation Kehilat Shalom belongs.

Members – no charge, $5.00 for non-members.

The Torah of Money:  Occupy Wall Street and Jewish Values

As growing numbers of protesters take to the streets across the country to protest corporate greed and other societal ills, what lessons can we learn from Jewish tradition that can help us sort through our own values on these complex issues?  Come and share your views over Shabbat dinner, and learn about the Jewish take on profit, debt, business practices, and society's obligation to care for the needy.
